Sonny Webster has showed his credentials as a top-class weightlifter once again after finishing 4th at the Junior European Weightlifting Championships in Estonia.
Achieving his highest finish in Europe to date, Sonny set himself new personal bests and smashed both the British Junior Snatch and British Junior Total records by lifting over 320kg in total.
Weighing in at 93.6kg at the start of the competition Sonny was placed at 7th on the start list, but his fantastic performance throughout the competition saw him climb his way up the leaderboard.
“Preparation was perfect leading up to the event – I had a really good training programme with my coach Andy Sutor. I also went on a two week training camp in Tenerife just before the competition, which has obviously paid off,” says Sonny.
“It’s been a great year, with my performance improving in every competition I’ve taken part in. I hope to continue this as I’m now preparing for the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships next month.”
Core Telecom has been working with Sonny since 2012, providing vital financial support for his training to ensure that he is able to prepare for competitions that best he can.
Mahmood Mazhar, CEO of Core Telecom said: “We are delighted to be part of Sonny’s journey, and we’re really proud of this latest achievement. We wish him all the best as he works towards his next and final competition of the year!”
