Core Telecom is delighted to announce weightlifter Sonny Webster has seen off fierce competition this weekend to become the British Senior Weightlifting Champion in his category.
Nineteen year old Webster has been working closely with Core Telecom over the last year as the company is sponsoring his training efforts and travel expenses, to ensure that he is able to focus completely on reaching the top of his game.
Despite his young age allowing him to still qualify in Junior events, Webster was able not only become a Senior Champion, but also smash two records along the way as he broke the British Under-20 Clean and Jerk and total records as he won by lifting a total of 317kg. In addition, Webster also fought off tough competition, which included Olympic athlete, Peter Kirkbridge.
By giving such a fantastic performance at the Championships, Webster has now secured his place at next year’s Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
“Being the British Champion is an amazing feeling. I knew the competition would be tough but I was dedicated to winning this competition and then breaking the two records on top of the title is unbelievable,” said Sonny.
“Core have really helped me be able to completely focus on my training and obviously it’s now all paying off!”
CEO of Core Telecom, Mahmood Mazhar was over the moon with Sonny’s win: “Everyone here at Core has been supporting Sonny throughout his career and we’re thrilled that he’s won this latest title. Core are proud to be part of Sonny’s journey and we just hope that his success is able to continue for the foreseeable future!”
