The International Day of Charity, observed on September 5th each year, serves as a global reminder of the power of kindness and the impact that collective efforts can have on those in need. This day, chosen to honour the memory of Saint Teresa of Calcutta, encourages individuals, NGOs, and stakeholders to come together, engage in philanthropic activities, and create a world driven by compassion and generosity.
As Saint Teresa once said, “It’s not how much we give, but how much love we put into giving.” At Core Telecom, this philosophy resonates deeply with us. We firmly believe that charity has the power to change lives, create a more compassionate society, and spread happiness. Our CEO, Mahmood Mazhar, embodies this belief through his ongoing mission to support charitable organisations. One of his significant contributions is the donation of free 03 numbers and the waiving of incoming call costs for charitable organisations. This initiative reduces telecommunication expenses for these organisations, allowing them to channel every pound saved into their vital causes. At Core Telecom, we consider each pound saved through such initiatives and reinvested into charitable causes as a victory.
Mahmood Mazhar’s commitment to making a difference extends beyond this initiative. For nearly a decade, he has consistently supported various charitable causes, leaving a lasting impact on the lives of many. In 2016, he donated a ‘Sunshine Coach’ worth £20,000 to The Forest School in Knaresborough, a school that supports children with moderate to severe learning disabilities. This donation was aimed at providing these children with opportunities to learn and explore the world beyond their classrooms, enriching their educational experience.
The challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic reminded us all of the importance of solidarity and support. Recognising the increased need for assistance, Mahmood stepped forward once again. In early 2023, when parts of Türkiye and Syria were devastated by a powerful earthquake, he donated £10,000 to aid those were affected. Mahmood believes that when we witness others in need and have the means to help, it is not just an opportunity but a duty to extend a helping hand.
In 2023, Core Telecom deepened its commitment to charitable work by naming Wakefield Hospice as our Charity of the Year. We proudly donated £10,000 to support their exceptional efforts in providing care and comfort to individuals with life-limiting illnesses. Our dedication to the community extends to celebrating the courage of young people, as we’ve sponsored the Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards for two consecutive years (2023 and 2024), shining a spotlight on the bravery and resilience of children across the region. Our efforts have not gone unnoticed; we were honoured to be the finalists for the Most Charitable Business of the Year at the Yorkshire Choice Awards.
At Core Telecom, we believe that by coming together, we can create a world where kindness, generosity, and compassion reign. The International Day of Charity is more than just a day of recognition; it is a call to action, a reminder that every small act of charity contributes to building a brighter, more hopeful future for all. We remain committed to this mission, inspired by the words and deeds of Saint Teresa, and motivated by the knowledge that through our collective efforts, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those who need it the most.
