Supporting Inclusion on World Down Syndrome Day

On World Down Syndrome Day, we want to shine a light on the 47,000 people living with Down syndrome in the United Kingdom. Down syndrome is a genetic condition caused by the presence of an extra whole or partial copy of chromosome 21. While the exact reason this occurs is still unknown, Down syndrome has always been a part of the human experience, affecting people across all regions and cultures.

Individuals with Down syndrome often have diverse learning styles, unique physical characteristics, and may experience certain health challenges. However, like everyone else, they have the right to be fully included in their communities.

People with Down syndrome, and their families, require support to thrive and participate fully in society. Unfortunately, in many parts of the world, adequate support systems either don’t exist or fail to meet the needs and rights of people with disabilities.

In the UK, Down Syndrome UK is a dedicated charity that works to improve the lives of people with Down syndrome and their families. Their mission is to create a more inclusive society where children with Down syndrome have the opportunity to attend local mainstream schools and, as they grow, encounter welcoming workplaces free from barriers.

At Core Telecom, we are proud to support Down Syndrome UK by providing them with a free 03 number and covering all incoming call charges. This allows the charity to reduce telecommunication costs and direct more resources toward helping the people who need them most.
Our commitment to fostering a supportive and compassionate community is deeply rooted in our values. Our CEO, Mahmood Mazhar, is passionate about helping charitable organisations, particularly those supporting children. His dedication is evident in initiatives like the donation of a Sunshine Coach to The Forest School, helping children access enriching experiences.

Together, we can build a more inclusive world where everyone, regardless of ability, is given the opportunity to thrive.
